Sam’s 2018 New Year’s Resolution- set yourself up for success

A New Year’s Resolution Epiphany- set yourself up for success

Every January I have the same resolutions… eat better, workout more, drink less, be present more in the now, etc. And every year I follow through with my resolutions… about half the time. I get distracted with all life’s changes and *poof* my resolutions are half-assed and I’m running from day to day trying to figure out where all the time went.

Fast forward to December 27, 2017 when I was talking with my husband and I had an epiphany. Set yourself up for success with better resolutions. Stop making the same resolutions as the past 5 years and start making the right ones. So, here it is… This year’s theme is:

Determination and Discipline

You see, the determination part is knowing what I want (my goal) and what needs done (action) to make that happen. The discipline part is setting the right pieces into play (a routine) to make the actions easier to complete. And then the results all fall into place and you have your successful resolutions.

Here’s how I see it…

Determination =  Spend more quality time with my family (my goal) by getting all my work and errands completed before everyone gets home (action).

Discipline = Going to bed by 9:30pm; waking up by 5:30 (no snoozing!); completing my morning routine:

– 5:30AM (Monday through Friday) wake up

– workout

– Straighten up house

– Check emails, messages, take mental note of what needs done today

– Get kids up, dressed, teeth brushed, hair fixed

– Feed kids breakfast, pack hubby’s breakfast to go

– Put my oldest on the bus

– Take my youngest to daycare

– By the time I’m home it’s 9am and I have a workout completed, house is in order, and I’m ready to kick some ass.

Result = Happier, healthier, and more productive days allowing me to be more focused on my family when we’re together.

So there you have it. My 2018 New Year’s Resolution is determination and discipline. The goals and action are all interchangeable to fit any resolution. Spread the love and share yours below. It’s never too late to make a new resolution!

[…] So, my 2018 workout resolution is to start each weekday with a workout. Waking at 5:30am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday hitting the garage box by 5:45am to stretch and warm up. Then it’s full force into the strength of the day and WOD (workout of the day). Finish by 7am and BOOM! Workout complete and bonded with the hubby. Two birds, one stone theory. My overall 2018 resolution is to spend more quality time with my family. I found it helpful to put together a morning routine with a workout that sets up for success.
